Tradition, Innovation, and Sustainability in Service of Grief Support

By André Luís Macêdo, Organiser of the Brazil Funeral Fair

The Funeral Trade Fair Brazil has become one of the leading meeting events for the funeral sector in all of Latin America. More than just an exhibition of products and services, the event represents a landmark of transformation, professional development, culture, and the ongoing development of the industry. It brings together companies, professionals, experts, and institutions united by a commitment to excellence, ethics, and innovation in caring for preserving the memory of loved ones.

First launched in 2009 in the state of Ceará, the trade fair began with the clear mission to create a space that offers visibility and recognition to a sector that is often overlooked by society, despite its immense social importance. In its early editions, the event brought together suppliers of caskets, equipment, embalming services, and of customisation of funeral vehicles. This was all done with a strong focus on business development and relationship-building.

Over the course of nine editions, the Funeral Fair Brazil has not only grown in scale but has also broadened its horizons. Themes such as sustainability, compassionate service, technological innovation, communication with grieving families, and even the challenges of succession planning in family-run funeral businesses, which represents the majority of the market in Brazil, have all been brought to the forefront.

Today, the fair is recognized not just in Brazil but across the Americas and in parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa. It attracts international visitors and fosters the building of strategic partnerships. The event plays a direct role in strengthening the industry's production chain, encouraging the exchange of knowledge, exploring new trends, and promoting innovation at every stage of the funeral process, from the first contact with families to burial, cremation, or other emerging alternative forms of bidding farewell.

Another key highlight is the fair's alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each edition promotes socio-environmental responsibility, integrating ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategies into the sector’s business practices. Sustainable initiatives have steadily increased year after year, and include responsible waste management, use of biodegradable materials, efforts to reduce the ecological impact of funeral practices, and support for corporate social responsibility. This forward-thinking approach responds to a growing public demand for more ethical, transparent, and environmentally conscious practices.

The technical programme of the Trade Fair is also a major differentiator. Talks, roundtables, workshops, and discussion panels tackle pressing issues such as funeral legislation, the use of artificial intelligence in management, mental health support for professionals working in this area, and the role of funeral services during emergencies and disasters. These sessions offer a true "Knowledge Immersion" and play a vital role in raising the standards of service providers across the sector, preparing them to act with dignity, efficiency, and compassion.

More than a business event, the Funeral Fair Brazil fosters culture, history, and the exchange of knowledge and experience, all while stimulating industry growth. It’s a space where the recent past and the future meet, where tradition walks hand in hand with modernity, and where the mission to welcome, care for, and respect life until its final moment is brought to light, honoured, and acknowledged by society.

We look forward to welcoming you in Recife, Brazil, 20–22 May 2026!
