Pet Farewell: A New Industry Emerges in Mexico

Recently, Mexico has experienced sustained growth in the pet care sector, establishing itself as one of the most dynamic industries within consumer markets. According to insights published by Forbes México, the industry reached an estimated value of $5.4 billion USD in 2024, with projections suggesting it could surpass $8.2 billion USD by 2033, driven by an average annual growth rate of approximately 4.8%.
This growth is largely the result of a structural cultural shift: the rise of multispecies families. Today, more than 50% of Mexican households have at least one dog, and a significant percentage also live with cats and other pets. Additionally, studies indicate that over 70% of pet owners in Mexico consider their pets as family members, reflecting a profound transformation in household structures and emotional dynamics. This relationship has strengthened the emotional bonds between people and their companion animals, increasing the demand not only for products, but also for specialized services that support every stage of a pet’s life - including end-of-life care.
Pet funeral services are emerging as a developing yet increasingly relevant category, shaped by the need for dignified, professional, and emotionally meaningful processes. In this space, Pet Love Story by Gayosso has positioned itself as a leading brand in Mexico, distinguished by its empathy-driven approach, modern facilities, service innovation, and the creation of deeply human-centred experiences. In December 2025, Pet Love Story was honoured as a winner at the Pets Life Awards, an event organized by GNP Seguros, one of the most important insurance providers in Mexico and Latin America. This recognition underscores the brand’s commitment to excellence and its role in shaping a new standard within the pet care ecosystem. As part of its expansion strategy, Pet Love Story is preparing to open a new location in Monterrey, strengthening its presence in northern Mexico, and extending access to these services to a broader base of families.
Despite this evolution, significant challenges remain. The pet funeral sector in Mexico is still in a stage of development, facing gaps in cultural awareness, regulation, and service standardization. As demand continues to grow, Pet Love Story continues to redefine pet funeral services in Mexico, focusing on personalized, empathetic, and meaningful experiences. In a sector where tradition and innovation converge, the future will be shaped by those who understand the emotional value behind the service. Pet Love Story stands at the forefront of this transformation, helping redefine how families navigate the final moments with their beloved pets.
Pet Love Story is a subsidiary of Grupo Gayosso, a leading player in the funeral services industry with over 150 years of history. Since its inception, Gayosso has been a cornerstone in the professionalization and transformation of the industry. Gayosso operates in 13 states across Mexico, with an infrastructure of 25 funeral homes, 23 cemeteries and 21 mausoleums, and it also offers funeral services nationwide and repatriations worldwide. Gayosso continues to set the standard in operational excellence, service quality, and innovation, being the only Mexican funeral company with certifications in ISO 9001, 27001 and UNE.
The development of Pet Love Story reflects a broader effort within the sector to adapt pet funeral services to changing social and cultural dynamics, including the growing recognition of pets as integral members of the family.
