The first International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage

The intangible cultural heritage has the vital importance to humanity thus the need for its safeguarding for the future through the generations. Capacity-building and awareness-raising actions with regard to the intangible cultural heritage are crucial in addressing global challenges and promoting mutual understanding in the modern world.

The 42nd session of the General Conference in November 2023 (42 C/Resolution 34) proclaimed 17 October as the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage. To mark this first edition in 2024, States Parties and other stakeholders of the 2003 Convention are encouraged to join the celebration by organizing events and activities to showcase the diversity and richness of living heritage and to raise awareness of the importance of its safeguarding. The events and activities to be organized in September, October and November 2024 can be showcased through the dedicated webpage.

As an organization with consultative status for UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage, FIAT-IFTA is proud to participate in these celebrations. We invite all members to explore the latest edition of the Funeral Heritage Report 2024, which highlights the significance of funeral practices as part of our living heritage.
