November 3, we celebrate Funeral Professional Day in recognition of those who do the work in the cemetery and funeral industry.
The celebration of the Funeral Professional Day, established by ALPAR - Latin American Association of Cemeteries and Funeral Services and supported by FIAT-IFTA, is an opportunity to raise awareness among the general public about issues related to tasks or efforts of all Funeral Professionals around the world, to recognize and honor their work.
In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the importance of the Cemetery and Funeral Home Industry was highlighted, as was the valuable work carried out by the professionals who work in it. For this reason, since 2021, ALPAR has promoted that the Day of the Funeral Professional be commemorated annually on November 3, to recognize their work, creating a permanent tradition and continuing to honor the profession.
The choice of November 3 to carry out this recognition was based on the fact that this date is after the Commemoration of the Day of the Dead, on November 1 and 2. Festival that is celebrated in various countries around the world to commemorate the memory of the deceased and that is increasingly popular, especially since 2008 when UNESCO recognized the Day of the Dead in Mexico as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which mobilizes companies in the Cemeteries and Funeral Homes Industry to develop numerous activities at their headquarters, thus making November 3 an important day to recognize the valuable work of the collaborators who work for these companies.
On June 16, 2022, the International Board of Directors (ICD) of FIAT IFTA (World Federation of the Funeral Sector), during its biennial meeting held in Budapest, Hungary, unanimously approved to support this ALPAR initiative, “Day of the Funeral Professional ”, to celebrate it annually on a global level and manage its recognition before UNESCO.
Likewise, the other international associations of the Cemetery and Funeral Industry have joined together and promoted among their member companies to celebrate this special date, recognizing the valuable work of all the people who work for the Industry.
We invite all FIAT-IFTA members to join the celebration and raise awareness among the general public about issues related to the tasks or procedures of the funeral profession.
